DISTRICT 5 ANNUAL REPORT
District 5 Projects
There is a new construction project happening on Browns Mill Road (State Road 212) at Salem Road. This is a Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) Project. The Browns Mill Road at Salem Road traffic circle roundabout project has began construction and has an estimated completion date of June 30, 2020.
The contractor is CMES, Inc. and the project is being managed by the Georgia Department of Transportation. Below, you will find a copy of the project layout as well as an informative video on traffic circle roundabouts. We will keep you updated as new information becomes available.

DeKalb County Special Purpose Home Repair Program Application Period Opens
The DeKalb County Community Development Department will offer deferred payment, forgivable loans to assist senior and disabled homeowners with critical repairs to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and roofing. To be eligible, applicants must be at least 62 years of age or disabled and at least 21 years of age, own DeKalb County property that serves as their primary residence, and satisfy income and other eligibility requirements.
The DeKalb County Community Development Department will accept preliminary applications for the Special Purpose Home Repair program on January 17 – February 1, 2019.

North Druid Hills Water Main Repairs Completed
DECATUR, Ga. — DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management has repaired the water main and restored service caused by a leak at 2334 North Druid Hills Road NE, near the intersection of Briarcliff and North Druid Hills Roads.
Judge to Host Traffic Violators Impact Program on
Distracted and Dangerous Driving
DECATUR, Ga.–State Court Judge Kiesha R. Storey will continue to host the Teen Victim Impact Program (TVIP) (now known as the Traffic Violators Impact Program) in 2019.
DeKalb County Mobile Career Center January Schedule
DECATUR, Ga. – WorkSource DeKalb announces its Mobile Career Center schedule for January. The center will be stationed at locations throughout DeKalb County to help put DeKalb County citizens back to work.
DECATUR, Ga.- DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond has proposed a three-percent pay raise and a $15-per-hour minimum wage to help retain and attract talented employees who are motivated to provide quality customer service to residents and businesses of DeKalb.
The compensation enhancements are part of CEO Thurmond’s goal of maintaining a well-compensated, highly-trained workforce dedicated to putting customers first.
On Dec. 11, 2018, CEO Thurmond delivered to the Board of Commissioners highlights of his proposed FY2019 budget which includes a 3-percent raise for all county employees who did not receive a raise in October 2018.
CEO Thurmond Proposes Three-Percent Raise, Higher Minimum Wage for Employees
Additionally, the proposed budget increases the minimum wage to $15 per hour for all full-time and regular part-time employees and includes an insurance holiday.
These proposals continue the progress started in the FY2018 budget to create a more competitive salary structure for all DeKalb County employees. In 2018, county employees whose salaries had not been adjusted since 2016 received a 3-percent raise, and a $14 per hour minimum wage was established for all full-time and regular part-time employees.
And in October, a 4-percent salary increase went into effect which applied to approximately 2,100 public safety employees.
The Board of Commissioners will vote on the 2019 county budget by Feb. 28, 2019.

DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs to Host Father Daughter Dance
DECATUR, Ga. — The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Affairs will host a Father-Daughter Dance at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, 980 Briarcliff Road, Atlanta, GA 30306 on Feb. 7, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
