Lifesaving Adoption Event
LifeLine Animal Project is holding a Lifesaving Adoption event now through this Sunday, June 16, and offering free adoptions on all dogs, puppies, cats and kittens at DeKalb County Animal Services!#OurCityOurAnimals

DECATUR, Ga. – Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will hold a Fishing with Fathers excursion on June 16, from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Center, 3787 Klondike Rd. Lithonia, Ga, 30038.
All ages are welcomed to participate in this fun-filled, relaxing morning of fishing in the park. Participants will learn the basics of freshwater fishing with their fathers at their sides. Light refreshments will be served prior to departure to the lake. Supplies are limited and will be rented on a first-come, first-serve basis. Participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear.

DeKalb County Recreation Parks and Cultural Affairs to hold Fishing with Fathers Excursion on June 16
DeKalb Announces $20 Million Water Pressure Improvement Plan
DECATUR, Ga. – Today, DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond announced a plan to resolve reported low water pressure issues in the Briarcliff and North Decatur areas. In July 2019, DeKalb County crews will begin work on a $20 million project that will replace seven miles of 60- to 100-year-old water pipes.
“Resolving water pressure issues in the Briarcliff and North Decatur area is a top priority for DeKalb County Government,” said CEO Thurmond. “DeKalb County is committed to fixing these longstanding problems and has directed significant resources to get the job done.”
The project will include the installation of more than one mile of high-capacity, 12-inch diameter water mains along Briarcliff Road.
Free Bulky Item Collection for DeKalb Residents
Schedule based on residents’ sanitation service day
DECATUR, Ga. – As part of the Operation Spring Clean Sweep 2019 campaign, the DeKalb County Sanitation Division offers free residential bulky item curbside collection every Friday and Saturday in June, from Friday, June 7, throughSaturday, June 29. Residents have an opportunity to place bulky items, including furniture and appliances, curbside for collection by Sanitation Division field collection teams. Collection schedules are based on residents’ designated sanitation collection service day.

Operation Spring Clean Sweep begins June 7
DeKalb County Sanitation Division’s Operation Spring Clean Sweep 2019 begins Friday, June 7, according to a press release. The initiative includes free residential curbside collection, paper shredding, litter collection and roadside enhancement activities.
DeKalb Library Offers
Fine-Free Summer
Kids, teens not charged overdue fines from June 1 to Aug. 31
DECATUR, Ga. – DeKalb County Public Library (DCPL) will waive any overdue fines for materials in the children’s and teen’s collections during Fine-Free Summer.
The initiative will run from June 1 to Aug. 31 and is designed to encourage reading and remove any barriers so kids and teens will read more during the summer months.

Summer Transition Center
The DeKalb School District is hostingtheir third Summer Transition Centers across the district in June. If you know of any DeKalb seniors or recent graduate who still need help with their college process, didn’t make any plans, their plans changed, or just have questions, please tell them to come toany of the locations listed on the attached flyer. This is not just for students who have college aspirations,all options will be discussed. Also, due to capacity, this event is limited to 2019 graduates or other recent graduates at this time.
Caribbean Diaspora Youth Initiative
Caribbean youth are laying new paths in technology, education, business, and sports. This panel discussion will shed light on their achievements and what opportunities youth can pursue today.
