DeKalb County News
First 10 Miles of SPLOST Paving Complete
DECATUR, Ga. – The first 10 miles of the worst roads in DeKalb have been resurfaced through the special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST) program. An additional 22 miles of resurfacing is currently under construction throughout the county, and 100 miles will be completed by the end of September [see more].
DeKalb New Day Project to Replace 102,000 Water Meters
Results will be accurate meter reading,
billing and consumption data
DECATUR, Ga. – Today, DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond announced theNew Day: Water Meter Exchange and Upgrade Initiative, a three-year program to replace 102,000 aging and potentially defective water meters, starting in April 2019. DeKalb County has 194,000 residential water customers.
DeKalb CEO Names Three MARTA Board Nominees
DECATUR, Ga. – DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond has nominated three county residents to serve on the MARTA board of directors.
“DeKalb nominees are dedicated civic and community leaders who have demonstrated a deep commitment to the county,” said CEO Thurmond. “The addition of these three members will be a tremendous asset in helping the county strongly advocate for continuous transit and ridership improvements.” [see more]
DeKalb Rainy Day Fund Grows to $113 Million
Budget surplus to support retirees, protect environment
DEKALB, Ga. – DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond announced that the county’s projected FY2019 rainy fund balance has grown 10 percent, from $103 million to $113 million. The total represents two months of reserves to finance county operations [Read more].

Greater Lithonia Chamber Commerce
2019 Scholarship Program
For the fifth year in a row, the Greater Lithonia Chamber of Commerce is pleased to host its
essay scholarship for the Lithonia/Stonecrest high school students. The scholarship program
was created in an effort to increase high school students’ knowledge and understanding of
the impact of media on our lives.
Deadline:
Postmark/upload deadline: March 29, 2019.
Nominations will be accepted beginning January 11, 2019.

Host Health and Wellnss Education Spring Fest Fair
DECATUR, Ga.— DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs’ Browns Mill Recreation Center, in partnership with Zeta Sorority, Inc, Iota Eta Zeta Chapter and the DeKalb MLK Jr. Cluster schools will host a Health and Wellness Education Spring Fest Fair Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., located at 5101 Browns Mill Road Lithonia, GA 30038.

Keep DeKalb Beautiful to Host Rain Barrel Workshop
DECATUR, Ga. – Keep DeKalb Beautiful will host a rain barrel workshop onSaturday, March 30, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Dunwoody Community Garden in Brook Run Park, 4700 N. Peachtree Road, Dunwoody, GA 30338. Participants will learn how to build rain barrels and leave with a completed project.
