“A Moment With Mereda”
District 5 Family, Friends, and Neighbors:
Happy Friday. This week, the Board of Commissioners hosted our Committee of the Whole meeting and the Employee Relations and Public Safety (ERPS) Committee meeting. We discussed items for the midyear budget as well as Public Safety bonuses. The Board will vote on the mid-year budget during the July 20th meeting.
This week, the DeKalb County Board of Registration and Elections installed its new board members. I want to congratulate 5th District constituent and an outstanding community leader, Dele Lowman Smith, who was selected by her peers to serve as the newly elected Chair of the Board. I would also like to extend congratulations to my former colleague, Nancy Jester who will serve as the Board’s Vice-Chair.
I am looking forward to working with the Elections Board to ensure that everyone has easy access to vote in DeKalb County!
Finally, today began the 2021 National Association of Counties (NACo) Annual Conference in hosted in Prince George’s County in Maryland. Vice-President Kamala Harris addressed the conference earlier today and reaffirmed the Biden Administration’s support to work with counties across this nation to repair and improve our infrastructure. On Monday, during the conference, my colleague from DeKalb’s 3rd Commission District, Commissioner Larry “LJ” Johnson, will be sworn in as the President of the National Association of Counties, representing DeKalb well and serving over 3,000 counties nationwide! Congratulations, Larry, we are so proud of you!
I encourage everyone who has not yet received your COVID – 19 vaccine to do so as soon as possible, as we work to ensure that DeKalb County citizens are fully vaccinated. If you have questions regarding locations where you can get vaccinated, please click here.
As always, thank you for allowing me to serve you as your District 5 Commissioner. Have a great weekend, and be safe!
Yours in service,
Mereda

Under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, FEMA will provide financial assistance for COVID-19-related funeral expenses incurred after January 20, 2020.

All Georgia residents age 16 and over are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine is in high demand and supply is very limited. In the coming months, when larger amounts of vaccines become available, more people will be able to get the vaccine. In time, everyone who wants the vaccine will be able to get it. We ask for your patience and understanding during this process.
